2009 Concert Season
The band is sounding great and our first concert in the Armed Forces Day parade was a great success. We have a full season lined up so I just wanted to remind everyone to click on the Calendar link and update your personal calendars with our concert venues. We always sound the best when everyone attends and I am looking forward to more great events!

The 2009 Season!
Conductor’s Corner
As the 2009 director of the Flagstaff Community Band, I am looking forward to a great season of music making, rehearsing, performing, and getting to know you all. The board of directors is currently meeting on a regular basis and is working on several great improvements to implement next year. Some of the items we are considering include revamping our web page with loads of helpful information, limiting the amount of concerts performed and only playing at quality venues, holding themed concerts to attract a wider audience, expanding our variety of music, sharing music from the Coconino Community College music library, and holding band social events for fun. Our music library is also being moved, sorted, and reconstructed to fill out missing parts so all pieces may be performed in future seasons.
I am a Georgia native and moved to Flagstaff in 1997. I currently teach general music, band, and Spanish to kindergarten through eighth grade at Maine Consolidated School in Parks, AZ. After school I teach private music lessons on piano and other various instruments. I am also the organist and hand bell choir director for Flagstaff Federated Church. Through out my time in Flagstaff I have been involved in a number of various musical and theatrical events.
During the 2007 Community Band season I played trumpet for a couple of concerts. This last season I enjoyed my involvement with the band whether it was improving my trumpet skills and playing, or in the role of assistant conductor. I am excited to work with all of you and excited about the many things coming in the 2009 season.
Our Community Band is definitely part of the greater Flagstaff community. As the 2009 season approaches there will be more ways for you to assist and be involved in the band. Recruiting band members is the first way we can all help prepare for the new concert season. One thing the band needs now is for you to be aware of people who would be good members. Inform previous band members you know of our new season, encourage new people you know that play an instrument to come try us out, and bring up the band in conversation, you never know where you find a hidden musician. Of course if you have previously played in the band, I encourage you to play with us again. Keep an eye on the website for rehearsal and concert dates, as well as special Community Band events (www.flagband.org).
If you have any ideas, questions, suggestions, comments, or simply would like to get together and play a bit before the official band season please contact myself or any of the Board Members.
