Purpose

The purpose of the Flagstaff Community Band is to provide concerts to the Flagstaff community, bestow musical education, support local veteran's organizations with patriotic music, and provide musicians with challenging musical compositions.

History

The band was organized as the Coconino Community College Band in the summer of 1992.  Dr. Jean Matthew was the college administrator responsible for helping the band organize. Randy Colvard served as the founding director. The first concert was performed in front of the public library on July 4, 1992. After two years as the community college band, the group decided to become independent of the college and it has been ever since. When the band became independent, its name was changed to the Flagstaff Community Band. The band has provided free, public concerts since 1994, and expects to continue the concerts for the foreseeable future.
